Sushi King: Is it Really The King?

Today I am reviewing Sushi King, the not-well-known restaurant on 1413 Grandview Avenue to see if it is actually a good sushi place. Sushi King is not so well known because it was semi-recently constructed and located in a tucked-away strip mall.

Sushi King has a very vast menagerie of a menu. Their menu includes drinks such as sodas and appetizers such as dumplings, spring rolls, and rangoons. They also have various soups, salads, and traditional rolls such as shrimp, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and many more. Sushi King also has some exciting specialty rolls such as the Grandview roll which is a tempura roll with salmon, crab meat, and cream topped with wasabi, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Another specialty roll they have is the Buckeye which is a roll with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, cream cheese, and avocado. It is deep fried topped with spicy tuna, spicy mayo, eel sauce, scallions, and masago. These two rolls make Sushi King feel like a local treasure since they are named after our city and the Ohio State Buckeyes. They also offer vegetarian rolls and dishes for those who have that eating restriction.

From Sushi King, the two traditional rolls I have tried are the Christmas which was made out of tuna, salmon, avocado, and tempura flakes, and the spider roll which is made from softshell crab, avocado, cucumber, caviar, lettuce, and eel sauce. Out of these two traditional rolls I liked the spider more because I love crab meat and find it more enjoyable than tuna and salmon and the eel sauce gives the roll a nice creamy taste.

This is Sushi King's interior which no longer offers indoor dining but customers can still order in-person.

The three specialty rolls I have tried are the king monster which is made out of shrimp tempura, avocado, seaweed salad, spicy crabmeat, tempura flakes, masago, and spicy mayo. Another roll I tried was the fantastic roll which contains shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy lobster salad, honey mayo, and spicy mayo. The last specialty sushi I enjoyed was the buckeye. From this selection of specialty sushi, I most enjoyed the king monster because the shrimp tempura and spicy crab meat complement each other very well while the spicy mayo gives the roll a nice sweet taste. My least favorite thing from their menu is the Buckeye. In the roll the salmon is cooked which throws off the flavor for the entire thing.

The restaurant used to have indoor seating pre-covid but now it’s been changed to a pickup/delivery restaurant due to safety concerns. Every time I go to Sushi King the service is really good. The staff is very friendly and the food is made very quickly making the in-person ordering experience very enjoyable.

Overall Sushi King is definitely one of if not the best sushi restaurants in the Grandview/Columbus area. I would rate the food a 9/10, the service a 10/10 and the location a 8/10. Whether it’s the convenient location, the great service, or the fresh and tasty food, Sushi King lives up to its name.

This is Sushi King’s website and menu where most of this article’s info is from. Fusian is Another sushi place in Grandview they offer indoor seating and have nice decor but their sushi is not the best quality. The worst sushi place I’ve tried in Grandview is Oshio. The Sushi was way too salty for my liking.
