This is Grandview Heights High School pre-renovation.
Spring at the end of the year means something different for everyone. Middle schoolers will move into their first year of high school, everyone else will move up into the next year, and seniors will graduate. Many seniors will head into college, starting the next chapter of their lives. But what about you? Do you know what you want to do or be? If not, don’t worry! Maybe some of these senior’s paths will fit your dreams as well.
The first senior is Lizzie Smith, who is going to Ohio State University to study environmental science. While she doesn’t know exactly what line of work she would be going into, she knows for sure that she has a passion for the earth and it’s health. A few options for her would be an ecologist, who studies the relationships of organisms and their environment, a wildlife biologist, who studies animals and their habitats, assessing the effects of human activities on wildlife, and environmental scientist, who conducts research to identify, control, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards affecting the environment or public health. Lizzie is minoring in Spanish, because she believes in learning more about cultures and traditions all over the world.
Our next senior, Elise Grainger is still keeping her options open for which college she will be attending. She knows for sure that she would like to major in public health, because her community is very important to her. With a degree in public health, she has many diverse options career wise. For example, she could be a health educator, who develops and implements programs to promote healthy behaviors and educates communities about health issues, an epidemiologist, who studies the patterns, causes, and effects of health and disease conditions in defined populations, or a data scientist, who uses data analysis techniques to address public health issues.
Senior #3 is Skylar Binning, who is attending Ohio State University with a major in architecture. She chose this so she can be in a creative and design based field while also having a job that can keep her financially stable. She chose OSU because it has a good program for her major and a beautiful campus that is close to home. Skylar is minoring in construction management. After her years at OSU, Skylar plans to go into an architecture based job like architectural designer, who focuses on the creative and technical aspects of architectural design, developing plans and drawings, or a construction Manager, who oversees the construction process, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Senior #4 is Sean (Biscuit) Roediger, who is going to the University of Cincinnati to study finance. Sean has always been interested in finance and money, and has decided to learn even more about it at Cinci. He doesn’t know exactly what job he wants, but a few options are an accountant, who manages and analyzes financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensures compliance with accounting principles and regulations, a tax assistant, who assists people with the preparation of tax documentation, filing, and organising tax returns, or a data analyst, who collects, analyzes, and interprets data to identify trends and patterns, ultimately helping organizations make informed decisions and solves problems.
The final senior, Keelyn Swisher, is attending Grinnell College and majoring in biology. She chose this school because it is a lot like Grandview, a small school with a beautiful campus, and amazing academics. She also chose this school because she has been offered a spot on their varsity track team. She knows she wants to go into a career with biology, but she is not exactly sure which one. A few options are a microbiologist, who studies microorganisms, their behavior, and their impact on health and the environment, a pharmacologist, who studies the effects of drugs on living organisms, or a biotechnologist, who develops and uses biotechnology tools and techniques in various industries.
Creating this story has definitely helped me see a glimpse of what I want my future to be, and I really hoped it helped you too. I know it’s stressful to choose, but just remember that there are people around you who will help you achieve your goals, and that everything is possible.
