I asked Multiple students with jobs to describe their occupations to help GHHS students find a potential future job. The first student I interviewed was Daria Shirazi, a 15-year-old sophomore. Daria works at the Grandview Heights Municipal Pool located on 1350 Goodale Boulevard as a desk and pool attendant. Her job consists of signing tickets, managing slides, and doing rest break announcements. Daria would work both morning and night shifts sometimes. On average she worked around 25 hours a week and made $10.50 per hour. The pay from last year has now changed to 12 dollars an hour. She described her job as being medium difficulty and that the difficulty depended on how busy they were that day. Daria wished that her co-workers weren’t other GHHS students so that she could meet new people. Other than that she recommends working at the pool as a starter job for GHHS students.
The next student I talked to was Lucas Schmied, a 16-year-old sophomore. Lucas works at Grandad’s Pizza on 1254 West Third Avenue. His job consists of driving occasionally, making pizzas, and running the front. During school, he works 10 hours a week. During summer break he works around 15 hours a week. Lucas usually works Fridays and Sundays from 4-9 PM on school weeks. He makes around $9.00 an hour with tips. He describes his job as pretty easy because you don’t have to think a lot, there is just a lot of standing around. Lucas likes his fellow co-workers because they are mostly GHHS students and he recommends his job to other students.
The third student I asked to describe their job was Chloe Nelson, a 17-year-old junior. She is a trainer at Raising Canes on 1211 Olentangy River Road and does every position in the restaurant including cooking, cleaning, taking orders, and training people. She makes $16.00 an hour. Chloe usually works 3 days a week 4:30 to 9 or 5 to 10:30. She describes her job as pretty easy if you are a quick learner. Chloe enjoys her job and recommends it to others.
Another student I talked to was Allie Wahl, a 15-year-old freshman who works at Krema Nut Company on 1000 Goodale Boulevard. She works the cash register and makes milkshakes. Her hours were usually 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays. Allie makes $12.00 an hour plus tips and thinks it is a really easy, fun job because she likes her co-workers. She recommends it to other students.
Another student I interviewed was Lilly Manuell, a 17-year-old Junior who works at Grandview Grind on 1423 Grandview Avenue. She is a barista. Most of the work is making coffee drinks and toasting bagels. She makes $10.00 plus tips actually which actually makes around $15.00 an hour. She works 6 hours a week only on Saturdays. Lilly likes her co-workers and kind of likes her job but doesn’t recommend it to other students.
Ava Cartwright is the last student I asked. She is a 15-year-old freshman who worked at Trattoria Roma on 1447 Grandview Avenue. She was a busser which meant she cleaned dishes, took dishes off tables, packaged up food, and occasionally brought food out. Ava made $8.00 an hour and usually worked from 6 PM to 9 PM. She thinks the job wasn’t right for her and wouldn’t recommend it to others.
