Henry Ruggs III is an NFL star living the dream, he plays for the Oakland Raiders. He was drafted twelfth overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2020 NFL draft. He was the fastest player in the draft and was one of the best wide receivers in the country coming out of Alabama. At the time, the Oakland Raiders had one of the best records in the NFL. It looked like they were going to have a very promising season this year, but little did they know their star wide receiver's life would change on Tuesday November 2, 2021.

Tuesday November 2, 2021, had started out as any normal day for Henry Ruggs III. He had gone to practice that day and did everything like he normally would. The Raiders had an off week this past weekend so the players had a little more free time since they didn’t have a game. Henry Ruggs and his girlfriend decided they would go out later that night and go to a golfing range. Later that night is when the unimaginable happened to Henry Ruggs.

On that Tuesday November 2, 2021, at 3:40 am, Henry Ruggs killed an innocent Woman and her dog. The woman's name was Tina Tintor and she was only twenty three years old. Henry Ruggs was driving himself and his girlfriend back to his house while he was under the influence of alcohol. He had a blood alcohol content level of .161 which is double the limit. Henry Ruggs was going about 156 miles per hour in his Corvette when he hit and killed Tina and her dog while they were in Tina’s car. When the cops showed up, Henry Ruggs was arrested and was taken to the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas Nevada.

Later on that day Henry Ruggs was released by the Raiders when they heard what had happened. Henry Ruggs posted a $150,000 bail to get out of jail and was put on house arrest with strict conditions while his case proceeded. Yet, during his court case Henry Ruggs asked to be excused so his legal team appeared on his behalf. The court decided to charge Henry Ruggs with two counts of driving under the influence, two counts of reckless driving, and possessing a gun while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. If he is found guilty of all of these the driving under the influence counts are punishable by two to twenty years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $5,000. Each reckless driving count is punishable by one to six years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $5,000.

I know myself and all of America did not want to see this happen, especially to a young talent like Henry Ruggs. We will never be able to find out what his true potential was or what he could have become. Henry Ruggs had the world in the palm of his hands and he lost it all. The lesson we can all learn from this is be smart and make good decisions. Henry Ruggs could’ve easily called a friend or even ordered an Uber to take him and his girlfriend home and all of this could’ve been avoided.
