With the 4th quarter starting, many of us are coasting into summer. Cedar Point plans on opening a new attraction to the public in the early summer this year. The ride is called “Siren’s Curse” and, according to Cedar Point, is the tallest, longest, and fastest tilt coaster in North America. This coaster was originally set to go up in Six Flags Mexico, but thankfully is ending up at Cedar Point, just a few hours away from Columbus.
This new coaster will have a length of two minutes with a top speed of 58 mph. I asked students Sam Truett and Thomas Andrako, as well as teacher Mrs. Turner if they would ride this new roller coaster. Thomas said that he’s excited to go there this summer and hopefully ride it and that it seems incredible. On the other hand, Sam and Mrs. Turner said that they would not ride the Siren’s Curse. Sam said that he isn’t much of a roller coaster guy and also mentioned that the school is pretty tall, but nowhere near this ride’s height of 160 feet. Mrs. Turner said that if she goes on a roller coaster, she gets motion sickness and it wouldn’t be very good for the other riders. She also said that she doesn’t care if it’s new or innovative or whatever, she still would never ride it. I personally am very excited to go and ride this roller coaster.
Aside from the innovation and thrill of this coaster, it also has a very interesting background or “lore.” For those who don’t know, a siren, in Greek mythology, is a half-bird and half-woman sea creature that is known for their voice that lured many sailors to their doom. Their voice was so soothing that it led sailors to their own fate on rocky shores. Another addition to this ride that makes it unique is that the coaster is designed to look like an old shipping crane tower. As you make your way up the ride, there’s creaking sounds that get louder as you get to the top. The carts for this ride have Cedar Point’s first on-board sound system, which allows the riders to feel more immersed in the legend while they hear the screeches of the siren.

Along with all of the background info, this coaster has some innovative and interesting stats. The ride has a length of two minutes and 2,966 feet of track. During this time, you will experience 13 different weightless airtime moments and 2 360-degree zero gravity barrel rolls. In order to go on this coaster, you must be at least 48 inches tall. The moment shown in the rendering above is during the tilt. The coaster goes up a ramp and at the top, the track cuts off and it seems like you’re stuck up there. But then, the track tilts 90-degrees and becomes a part of the track below it. Then riders will drop into the rest of the coaster. Overall, this ride is pretty innovative and has some interesting features that a lot of people are excited to try out.
