Going into week ten of the NFL regular season the Cleveland Browns were off to a hot start sitting at a record of 5-3. In week ten they flew to Baltimore and took on the Ravens with a 7-2 record. The Browns played great winning 33-31 and starting quarterback Deshawn Watson had his best game of the year. Hopes about this year were at a new high. But soon news hit that Deshawn Watson was ruled out for the season with a fracture in his right shoulder. Browns fans were devastated and many believed their season was over.
The next week the Browns started rookie quarterback Dorian Tompson-Robinson over PJ Walker, the second string quarterback. He played decently pulling out a close win over the Steelers and earned the starting job for the next week. Now at this point the Browns had a decision to make. They could continue with rookie quarterback DTR or take a shot on an old veteran quarterback by the name of Joe Flacco.
Flying to Denver the next week the Browns took on the Broncos. DTR and the offense struggled to put up points and the Browns were blown out 29-12. The decision was now made. Joe Flacco would be the starting quarterback from here on out.
The Browns took on the LA Rams in week 13. Even though they were defeated the offense put up the most points since Deshawn Watson had been ruled out. There were now five games left in the regular season and the Browns needed to start winning again to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
Week 14 they took on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Flacco was now starting to link up with his team and was able to put up 31 points and take the win. The next week they took on the Chicago Bears. Again they secured a win and now only needed two more wins to get into the playoffs.
In week 16 they took on the Texans and Joe Flacco showed the NFL that he can still be a starting quarterback. He threw for 370 yards and three touchdowns, winning them a game and a solid chance of the playoffs. Yet the Browns still had business to finish. If they won in week 17 they were in the playoffs. They were taking on the Jets who are known to have a good defense. The Browns did not let this stop them from putting up 37 points and securing a playoff spot for the first time in three years.
In the playoffs the Browns sadly did not last long losing 14-45 against the Houston Texans and ending their playoff run. On the bright side at the NFL honors four of the eight awards were given to people affiliated with the Browns. Myles Garrett won defensive player of the year. Joe Flacco won comeback player of the year. Kevin Stefanski won coach of the year and Jim Schwartz won assistant coach of the year. The Browns have a bright future ahead of them.
